Ruth Judkins

First Grade

I am Ruth Doggett Judkins. I graduated from Lynchburg College with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. I have always wanted to be a teacher.

I have lived in Surry County all of my life. My family lived on a farm and my father raised peanuts, corn, soybeans, and hogs. We had a pony and I enjoyed riding in the sulky. Cats and dogs were on the farm also. Border Collies are one of my favorite dogs.

I am married to my husband Franck and I have one son, Jonathan, who graduated from T.A. In the summer, I enjoy sitting on the pier on the James River with family and friends. My time for reading is limited but I enjoy reading in the summer. I like to cook and share my favorite recipes.

I enjoy teaching at T.A. It is rewarding teaching first graders to read. Students are eager to learn at this age. They are so excited at the end of the year to be able to read. I try to encourage my students to be truthful, kind, and to make wise decisions.
