About TA’s Community Service Work

An important aspect of a Tidewater Academy education is an emphasis on service to others. Our Lower School students learn early on the importance of helping others. This same spirit of giving is continued through the Upper School years as students remain actively involved in reaching out to the community and making a difference in the lives of others.

Each school year, our TA students are involved in various service-related projects and events:

*All Upper School students are required to take a “Service Learning” class.  Students taking Service Learning perform all types of service projects at the school and in the community.  For details about their projects, see the Service Learning Page.
*The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Middle and Upper School grade levels work at the local food pantry throughout the school year. At the food pantry, our students package food items and help the food pantry’s customers transport items to their vehicles.
*Lower School students raise money for the American Heart Association every winter by participating in Hoops for Heart.
*During the Holiday season, the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Lower School collect hats, mittens, socks, and toys and donate them to those in need in the community.
*The National Honor Society (NHS) provides service to the Wakefield Foundation by cleaning the Foundation building and performing yard work.
*The FCA leads Sunday worship services for local churches at various times during the year.
*Upper School students help senior citizens in the local community by performing yard work for them.
*The NHS coordinates a community blood drive annually.
*The SGA leads a school-wide canned food drive. The food is donated to those in need in the community.
